Bartender 22′ Custom Order!

December 8th, 2013|

We are fortunate to have a custom order to build a George Calkins 22' Bartender this winter. This design is famous for giving a smooth ride in rough waters, particularly in ocean cuts with a following sea. The design originated on the Northwest coast of the United States, and has been used by the Coast Guard on East and West coasts, but is also used for recreational boating throughout the world. This Bartender will be cutting through the inlets of Popponesset Bay in Mashpee, Mass. She will be powered by a V-6 Mercruiser and, under ideal conditions, will do 35 knots. Draft is 18".

Follow the slide show as this boat comes together. Built by Leslie.

Conjurer, a cat with many lives!

Watch as We Restore This Old Girl to Her Original Glory

In 2009, Arey's Pond started restoring the 1909 H. Manley Crosby-built catboat, Conjurer. In 2008, she had been sailed down the coast to Pleasant Bay by previous owner Peter Baker of Brooklin, Maine to be delivered to current owner, Fred Villars. We worked on her part time until 2012, at which time builders at Arey's Pond focused on finishing her. After working on her full-time over two winters, at 104 years old, Conjurer was floating in May and sailing by October 2013, having had the summer to swell up her century-old keel. Over the winter of 2014, details will be finished and by spring, she will be ready to sail the waters of Cape Cod.

Development of the APBY 18′ Daysailer

January 24th, 2012|

The birth of an elegant 18' sloop with shoal draft, recounted by Tony Dias:

Arey's Pond Boat Yard is well known for the fine Catboats they produce. Tony Davis and I have wanted to work together for some time, and when this opportunity to build a sloop to fit in their line arose I jumped at the chance. Cape Cod is reknowned for its Cats, but there has also been a long tradition of handy, shoal sloops dating back at least a century. The Kingston Lobster Boat in Chappele's American Small Sailing Craft while Cat Ketch rigged, is pretty close to being an ancestral working prototype.
