Maiden Voyage for a New Owner (Gracie Anne Part 4)
Make sure to read the Maiden Voyage of Gracie Anne Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.
Manana, the 22′ Arey’s Pond catboat previously known as Gracie Anne, was sold to John, a retired Chicago Police Officer. John’s goal was to sail her from Arey’s Pond to Chicago. Catboat sailing was new to him but he was motivated to do it. Manana was built just for this kind of trip. Her maiden voyage for her original owner Winslow Maxwell was from Brielle NJ to Norfolk Virginia. David, the second owner, sailed her from Orleans, MA to Newcastle, ME.
John set out from Arey’s Pond with help from Ting and Trevor, APBY riggers and experienced sailors, to help him navigate the tricky inside route to Stage harbor Chatham. From there John, set off on his 6 week singlehanded trip to Lake Ontario. He took it slow at first to get to know the boat taking a couple weeks to get to the Hudson. Then up the Hudson, de-rig for the locks. She is now in Chicago we will keep you posted on her sails on the Great Lakes.
Please enjoy some photos from Manana’s trip below.
