Marine Finish Technician

Arey’s Pond Boat Yard is a full service waterfront and boat building facility located in South Orleans, on lower Cape Cod, MA. We specialize in sailboats and offer a variety of services including fiberglass repair, high end finish work, rigging, hauling, launching, and other services. We are also a renowned builder of catboats and other custom wood and fiberglass vessels. 

Job Description 

We seek a Marine Finish Technician with teamwork skills and a strong work ethic. We will offer training and encourage entry level applicants to apply. The primary responsibilities of this position include providing a range of high end finish services for customers, including varnish, one and two part paint application, bottom paint, and fiberglass repair. 

Responsible to: Head Finisher, Yard Foreperson, Director of Operations

Job Responsibilities 

  • Application of varnish and Cetol finishes
  • Application of one and two part paints
  • Repair varying levels of cosmetic damage
  • Prep and perform tasks in a professional time-frame
  • Keep shop clean and organized
  • Electronically checkout materials and track labor time
  • Resolve mistakes or safety concerns by discussing them with other employees and/or supervisor.
  • Work with the administration department to create accurate estimates for projects.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Motivated individual who works well as a member of a team
  • 2+ years of job experience, preferably in the marine service industry
  • A valid driver’s license (demonstrable towing experience is a plus)
  • Warehouse forklift experience preferred. Training will be offered to candidates if needed. 
  • Knowledge of sailing and sailboats is a plus. 

Compensation: Starting at $20-24/hour. Applicants with significant previous experience in professional marine varnish and paint application can expect a higher hourly rate. This is a full-time, hourly, position with full benefits and paid time off, available after a probationary period.
